Grafitos medievais no Castelo de São Jorge (Séculos XIV-XV)
Novos estudos
Abstract
Following the discovery, in 2015, of some unknown graffiti on the so-called “Torre do Paço”
(Tower of the Palace) of São Jorge Castle in Lisbon, more sets of drawings and inscriptions
were analyzed on the tower and the barbican wall on the eastern side of the fortress. This new
data not only added valuable heraldic information, but also sheds some light on daily urban
life in the late-Middle Ages and on the castle’s historical and constructive evolution, helping to
reaffirm the medieval origins of parts of its structure.
