FOLKSONOMY IN INFORMATION SERVICES
a collaborative resource for digital-virtual environments

Given the complexity of the ways in which information is accessed, preserved and shared via the Web, information services must seek ways to reach out to their communities of interest. Thus, folksonomy has emerged as a strategy that has enabled interaction between Internet users and information professionals. The general objective is to understand folksonomy as a relevant strategy to be used in digital-virtual environments of information services. The specific objectives are: to conduct a literature review to understand from which perspectives folksonomy has been studied in recent years; to understand the main characteristics of folksonomy; to understand the applicability of folksonomy in digital-virtual environments. This study is qualitative in nature and has a theoretical and exploratory typology. The method used was a systematic literature review. Folksonomy responds to the need for closer ties between information subjects and information professionals and contributes as a result to the recovery, sharing and creation of new knowledge.
