INFORMATION SCIENCE AS A SUPPORTING SCIENTIFIC FIELD TO DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION COMPREHENSION
an observation regarding data technologies and artificial intelligence
Keywords:
Data Science, Information Science, Artificial Intelligence, Digital TransformationAbstract
This study proposes the discussion about how Information Science (IS) can offer support to other scientific fields to improve Digital Transformation (DT) comprehension. As new technologies emerge every day and are impulsively adopted by organizations to solve problems regarding information, these implementations evolve without a needed scientific base. As the IS is an open and contributive field to promote a productive dialog with other environments, this article focus on conditions, perspectives and potential results about the DT comprehension, with a special focus over the innovative cases of the proposition of the Data Science field and the actual status of Artificial Intelligence. This approach is done evaluating the methodological principles of multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity, all successfully practiced by IS scholars and researchers for decades, with significant results, enabling expectations to improve the understanding and domain of Digital Transformation.
