Hagiografia e teatro : os discutíveis méritos de um Auto de Santo António
Abstract
This article focuses on the Auto de Santo António, by Afonso Alvares, which was censored by the Inquisition in 1624, reviewing its hagiographic sources almost always dealt with in a relaxed, even if kind, way - and studying the devote prayers ' 1invented'1 by the author, the meaning of the struggle between Angel and Devil in the context of Antonian religious vocation, and finally, theatre within the theatre, the "introduction 11 by the Representer, in which the saint's miracle perfoming profile is already outlined.
