Abstract

Integrated in the reflection on the theme of places  and  practices  of devotion  (or, the importance of spaces   in  the  development of  certain  forms  of  spirituality and  devotional  practices), set  as  the CIUHE  central theme for this year, and by suggestion of Professor  José Adriano  de Carvalho, 1 was responsible for a study  on  the influence of  mountains in the  history of several  religious orders  in Portugal. Necessarily, this history  must include the mountains of Arrábida and Sintra,  in the case of the Capuchin friars, or the Mountain of Ossa,  in the history  of the Order of S. Paul’Eremite Friars.
