This article offers a reflection on the Short Film Festival of the Public Schools of Brasília created in 2015 and held as part of the Festival de Brasília do Cinema Brasileiro program. Based on the example of experiences and theoretical approaches on audiovisual creation in schools, in addition to participants' testimonies, it is intended to analyze the impacts of using cinema as a source of knowledge and perception, raising the pedagogical action of watching a film as a mere form of illustration for an immersion in film production, which culminates in the holding of a festival. The article addresses, based on studies on festivals, the effects on culture and education, by expanding the range of training activities that already exist in professional film festivals and by contributing to adding the student segment to the categories of specialized festivals.
