Abstract

The following article explores the musical scenes of lo-fi and vaporwave through a sociological approach. On the one hand, both genres’ emergence are historically and culturally contextualized, also, it is analyzed how they are currently manifested in the digital space. On the other hand, the cultural, thematic, and emotional landscapes pertaining to these scenes are described, since they have very specific symbolic meanings and creative contexts: aspects that are intricate and sociologically relevant. Thus, the article consists of framing of both genres as musical scenes, supported by the literature referenced and cited, an empirical analysis of the digital spaces where the scenes thrive, and an attempt to highlight the sociological importance of the dynamics of both.
