Abstract

Observing the status used for photographs in archives today, since the recognition of their character as an archival document, their differences in organization, packaging and availability for access, it is evident the need to deepen the discussions about these documents in the archival scope. For this reason, it is proposed to discuss photography and its nuances, envisioning its documentary and, consequently, archival nature, from its production context and the theoretical-methodological perspective that diplomatic analysis offers as a valid tool to understand it while result of an action registered in the contemporary world, that is, a document. For that, the methodology applied was the case study, being the Fernando Henrique Cardoso Foundation the research universe. It is concluded that, more than applying diplomatic criticism to photographic documents, it is necessary to reflect on the production of images as documents, as well as their characteristics and their condition of production, that is, their context.

Author Biography

Maria Leandra Bizello, Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio Mesquita Filho” (UNESP)

Professor Dr. Maria Leandra Bizzello has a degree in History from the State University of Campinas (1989), a Master's in Multimedia from the State University of Campinas (1995), a PhD in Multimedia from the State University of Campinas; did a doctoral internship at the Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris III (2006) under the guidance of Prof. Michel Marie; Post-doctorate in Information Science at the University of Porto - Porto - Portugal, where she developed the project Archival and Scientific Memory: production and evaluation of documents in the environment of universities, under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Ribeiro. She is currently a professor of the Archival Science Course and the Postgraduate Program in Information Science at UNESP, Marilia campus. He has experience in the area of ​​History, Communication and Information Science, with an emphasis on History, memory and images, working mainly on the following topics: history, memory, cinema, developmentalism, photography, document management in universities and scientific memory.
