Abstract
Building the Transmontane frontier between the 12th and the 13th centuries: from the role of the Crown to the local powers
Abstract: This work seeks to contribute to the understanding of the political construction of the north-eastern border of the Kingdom of Portugal, during the 12th and 13th centuries, which corresponds to the current territory of Trás-os-Montes. To do so, we resorted to the crossing of several documental sources, privileging the use of the Inquirições Gerais do Reino of 1258, due to the abundance of information that this source offers at a particular moment of the construction of Portugal. In the end, we will demonstrate how the different powers were articulated and what strategies were adopted, especially at local level, with a view to the political definition of space, through the example of the Julgado of Vinhais.
