This article aims to contribute to the study of socioprofessional relationships between artisans
from Porto, taking as a case study the execution of the pipe organ at the Church of the Convent of Santo Elói
in the city of Porto. We intend to recompose the historical picture, which illustrates the construction process
of the instrument itself and, especially, the execution of the case as an object of carving work and the
collaboration of several masters in its execution. We also present a proposal to recognize the attribution of
authorship for the gilding and painting of the organ case through the systematization and crossanalysis
of documented data. The article highlights the importance of the work obligation contract as a privileged
source of artistic and sociobiographical information.
