Só ou acompanhado? A emigração para os territórios ultramarinos nos séculos XVI e XVII
Abstract
Neste artigo procura-se apurar, na documentação paroquial e notarial de Vila
do Conde, o estado civil dos emigrantes que partiam para os arquipélagos atlânticos, África, Ásia e América, entre 1560 e 1651. Procura-se perceber a estrutura familiar, de forma a compreendermos se esta emigração era feita individualmente ou se contava com a participação dos parentes, quer numa partida conjunta, quer através de uma posterior união no território de destino.
Verificaremos então a composição familiar dos emigrantes e a influência que esta pode ter na escolha de um determinado destino, atendendo às suas características, tais como o clima e a distância em relação ao reino.
