O Natural e o Artificial: Algumas Reflexões sobre o Verso Livre Paulo Henriques

Abstract

This article analyzes the notion of “free verse”, showing that the term refers not to a specific form but rather to a continuum of prosodic practices, and underscoring the historicity of each variant. It further critiques some assumptions and positions common among contemporary poets and critics, such as the idea that traditional forms are too dated to be suitable for our times, whereas free verse is unblemished by historical associations, immune to rules of any kind and somehow more “natural” than metered verse.
