About the Journal

Scope
Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published online by the Lisbon Municipal Archive, Lisbon City Council, Portugal. Published since 2014, this journal aims to promote the documentary heritage of the Lisbon Municipal Archive within the national and international scholarly community, fostering its dissemination and use, while also contributing to the diffusion of scientific knowledge through the publication of studies in the field of History — particularly political, institutional and social history — from a critical and interdisciplinary perspective, in dialogue with other areas of the Social Sciences. It privileges studies on the multiple dimensions — political, social, cultural and economic — of cities, understood as territories of power relations, social practices and processes of identity construction.

The journal publishes articles with double-blind peer review, as well as book reviews, interviews and other texts that contribute to the dissemination of scientific knowledge. It also includes a section, Documenta, dedicated to disclose primary sources held by the Lisbon Municipal Archive.

The journal publishes two issues per year (January and July) and provides texts in Portuguese, Spanish, English and French following the continuous publication model.

Open Access Policy
Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal is an open access journal. All content is made freely available without charge to users or their institutions. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, link to the full texts of articles, index them, analyse them using computational tools, or use them for any other lawful purpose, subject to the terms of the applicable licence.

Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal provides immediate and unrestricted access to its content, without embargo periods or access fees. The journal considers that the public and free dissemination of scholarly knowledge promotes its broad circulation and contributes to the democratisation of access to scientific research.

Copyright and Licensing
Authors retain copyright of their published works and grant Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal the right of first publication.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence, which permits users to copy, distribute, reproduce, share and adapt the content for non-commercial purposes, in any medium or format, provided that appropriate credit is given to the author and the original publication in this journal is acknowledged.

Articles published on the journal's website may also be made available through open access directories, databases and repositories.

Deposit and Version Sharing Policy
Cadernos do Arquivo Municipal accepts the submission of articles that have been previously made available as preprints (see Admission of preprints).

Following submission to the journal, the manuscript may not be made publicly available or deposited in other platforms during the editorial process.

The accepted version (manuscript after peer review) may not be deposited or shared separately. Only the published version (Version of Record) may be freely shared and must always include the full bibliographic reference and DOI.

Digital Preservation Policy
This journal uses the PKP PN (Preservation Network) system, which ensures access to the original version of its contents and its long-term preservation.
