Abstract

The following article is focused on the production of fictional spaces in early XXth century adventure novel serie She, by Henry Rider Haggard. We intend to analyse how, in the context of European imperialism and industrial capitalism, a particular scientific narrative of the world History meet disposable spaces to be conquered, thereby producing new fictive territories for exotism and adventure. We use the example of archeology as a discursive device producing and organizing spaces and their history, used in adventure novels to create island-like spaces, cut from the outside world, therefore brutal and fascinating.
