For What Purpose is the PCP? The Years of Foundation
Abstract
The book Para que serve o PCP? Os anos da Fundação provides a synthesis of the political history of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) since its establishment in 1921. The author, Adelino Cunha, highlights the syndicalist and revolutionary origin of the PCP, emphasizing its evolution as a class-based party focused on exploring the contradictions of bourgeois society. Written in a simple and accessible language, the book covers a broad historiography, using documents and periodicals such as Bandeira Vermelha and Avante! to analyze the various phases of the PCP's formation, from the introduction of Marxist ideas to the gradual embrace of Leninism. The work critically analyses the PCP trajectory over the past 100 years.
