Abstract

In this work, carried out on two corpora of opinion articles and cartoons from Portuguese press around the concepts of troika, austerity and crisis, we studied  aspects of linguistic modality visible in occurrences of the modal verbs poder, dever e parecer and mechanisms such as irony, humor and derision, when they are configured as operators of enunciative involvement and detachment by the enunciator in relation to the states of affairs that he captures and criticizes.
