Selos alfandegários do Convento de Santana de Lisboa
Abstract
The archaeological excavation campaigns carried out in the area of the former Santana Convent
of Lisbon (2002/2003, 2009/2010), led by two of the authors (RVG and MVG) exhumed,
among a few thousand pieces, a small set of lead customs seals of the 16th century. Despite
its poor state of conservation, it is possible to recognize different shapes and dimensions,
as well as motifs that identifi ed them, namely the armillary sphere. These seals were most
commonly used when importing textiles that we know have different origins, from European
countries to the East.
